Description
We hardly get it right in the first go, so why should we expect our students? This lesson plan prepares students to perform a speech, slam poem, presentation, or any other type of scary performance before the actual day.
This lesson plan takes students through practicing their speech over and over and over with different peers BEFORE the big day, so that when it finally arrives, they own it.
I’ve done this lesson plan almost every year I’ve taught, and it’s always one of my favorites. Though students are nervous in the beginning, by the end of the period almost everyone says in their reflection (included!) that they feel much more comfortable speaking.
This lesson plan is featured on TeacherOffDuty.com, and includes:
-Detailed lesson plan
-CCSS Standards
-Content and Language Objectives
-Do Now Slide
-Instructions slides
-Peer Feedback Rubric
-Student Reflection Sheet
-Teacher Feedback Rubric
I can’t wait to hear from you how it goes in your classroom. Enjoy!!

Only had one day to talk about public speaking with 9th graders. They loved this lesson. Even students who were terrified of public speaking were able to engage. Thank you!!!
